When you’re facing your horse and they take a step forward and put their head to your chest as if saying, “I love you.” When you’re just arriving to the barn and you hear them greet you with a whinny. When you can see it in their eyes how much they trust you. When you disappear for a second to put something up, and you hear them call out to you hoping that you’ll come back. When their ears perk up at the sound of your voice. When they calm down by the touch of your hand. When they become defensive for you if a loose horse is charging at you. When you see it in their eyes that they know they’re safe with you. When you fall and they don’t leave your side until they know you’re okay. When you’re hugging their chest and they turn their head to hug you back. When they play with your hair and it gives you goose bumps. When they lick your arms and hands and you feel their soft tongue on your skin. When they see you riding another horse and they get jealous. When you hear their soft nicker as if they’re saying “I’m right here, everything’s going to be okay.” When you’re sitting on top of them and they turn their head and give you that expectant look wondering what’s next. When you go out to the stables and when you see them, you know that you are home with the animal that loves you for you.
